Love Letters, by A.R. Gurney, is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated play that tells the story of a lifelong relationship between Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, through the letters, notes, and cards they exchange from childhood into adulthood. The play is unique because the actors sit at desks and read their correspondence aloud, revealing their intertwined lives, dreams, and disappointments. It's well known for its simple staging, and poignant exploration of love, missed opportunities, and the power of the written word.
